There are a lot of reasons to visit Paris. This picturesque city is full of impressive museums, famous cathedrals, beautiful gardens and countless other must-see attractions. However, one of the best reasons to visit any new city is for the food.
For those of you with a sweet tooth, Paris is the place to be. It’s a well-known fact that crêpes, macarons and croissants are all delicious, but there is something that Paris does particularly well and doesn’t get as much credit for. Drum roll, please…
For four days each October, the City of Lights and Love actually adopts an additional title—the City of Chocolate, while it hosts the Salon du Chocolat.
This chocolate festival is a true celebration of all things cocoa.
What to Expect at the Chocolate Festival
Held in the Paris Expo at the Porte de Versailles, this chocolate festival is no joke. Over these four days, one hundred and thirty chocolatiers from all over the world make their way to Paris. Throughout the festival, they exhibit their skills and teach the masses about every aspect of chocolate-making. Over 100,000 visitors flock to the festival each day in order to experience an entire series of choco-centric events: from basic cooking classes and chocolate tastings to a showcase of chocolate sculptures and a fashion show of clothing made completely out of chocolate.
There are even dance performances that celebrate chocolate from all over the world. On the last day of the festival, the best international chocolate makers come together to compete for chocolate awards in the “espace cacao.”
To curb feelings of guilt from indulgence at the festival, the cacao show hosts discussions on topics justifying the importance of a chocolaty diet. One of these, for example, was titled “Chocolate is Good for Your Heart.” Characterized by a whirlwind of delectable dancing, luscious tastings, sweet smells, and mouthwatering lectures, the Salon du Chocolat is a satisfying sensory overload. While it can get crowded, it is definitely well-worth the visit. Check out the official website for more information on this year’s festival.
